
Saint Paul City Ballet, at a glance
- In 2007 we celebrate the 55th anniversary of ballet training at our historic Grand Avenue studios and our tenth year.
- At Saint Paul City Ballet School, we offer classes for pre-professional dancers, adults/teens, and young children in classical ballet, jazz, sacred dance, and pre-ballet.
- Dance classes for those who might otherwise not be able to afford them.
- Began a partnership with Mississippi Creative Arts providing classes to its students.
- SPCB continues to sponsor free performances for K-12 students.
- SPCB continues to offer classes through Community Education.
- Saint Paul City Ballet is also known for creating original ballets and collaborative performances that delight our audiences. We have premiered two full-length, original ballets: The Golden Bough and A Christmas Carol. In 2007, we premiered a commissioned jazz work, Enticed, by George Maurer.
- We value individuals and strive to make dance accessible to all. We are committed to fostering an appreciation for the performing arts in families and communities through education and outreach.
- In 2002, Saint Paul City Ballet established a satellite school in St. Cloud, MN, partnering with Central Minnesota Music School. SPCB also became resident tenants of the Paramount Theatre, St. Cloud, in the fall of 2004.
- Recognitions:
- In 2006, Saint Paul City Ballet had the rare honor to be asked to perform in Italy, under artistic direction of Anna-Marie Holmes of Ballet Adriatico. Dancers performed excerpts from Carmina Burana on August 10, 2006, in Ascoli Piceno, Italy.
- Since 2005, Saint Paul City Ballet was selected by the German-American Heritage Foundation to be the recipient of proceeds from Saint Paul Sommerfest.
- In August 2003, Gabriela Komleva, professor St. Petersburg Conservatory, and ballet mistress and coach of the Maryinsky (Kirov) Theatre recognized Saint Paul City Ballet for providing superior classical ballet training in the Russian style. Ms. Komleva has been an honorary SPCB Board member since 2003.
- Over 7600 people served by SPCB through programming annually.
- SPCB employs 24 staff including teachers, accompanists and administration.
- Saint Paul City Ballet has over 100 volunteers who generously give of their time.

Thanks to you, Saint Paul City Ballet has given students of the Twin Cities Metro Area and particularly the North End of St. Paul the chance to experience an art form which gives them a new perspective on themselves and what they can accomplish.
In 2005, Saint Paul City Ballet began its outreach program in the North End of St. Paul. In partnership with North End businesses, schools, and the St. Paul Cultural STAR Grant program, we have made dance lessons accessible for children of economically disadvantaged families in their neighborhood. Classes are offered after school and students participate in studio performances.

Saint Paul City Ballet subsidizes performances for school children. The premiere of A Christmas Carol, the Ballet and 'Tis the Season holiday shows were attended by 1700 delighted kids. SPCB has discovered that bus transportation is the largest financial obstacle to students attending performances so they partnered with local businesses to underwrite this cost. The number of schools who wanted to attend far out numbered the schools we could accommodate.
Last fall SPCB began a partnership with Mississippi Valley Creative Arts School, teaching children ages 10 through 13 in ballet and jazz. This program assists immigrant children adapt to American culture through art.
